Product Care & Maintenance

CARE.

Our timber products are high-quality items made by skilled craftsmen that require care and attention to help extend their life. Over time, products will patina, inheriting character via scratches and dents. We consider this to be expected wear and tear. Where clear finishes have been applied, they will naturally degrade, making the timber more susceptible to damage. The following gives details about caring for our clear finishes. 

FINISHES. 

We apply a range of clear surface finishes to suit the timber species and application. Our range of finishes has been chosen for ease of application, re-application and durability.    

CLEAR FINISH TO TIMBER.

Our standard interior clear finish provides a durable, low-maintenance, hard-wearing surface suitable for all internal surfaces, including those in the bathroom and kitchen. These finishes are resistant to everyday liquids. Once cured, they are safe for humans, animals and plants. We use OSMO Spray Wax as it is beautiful, made from natural materials, and is easily reapplied when maintenance is required. It can also be purchased around the world. 

We use OSMO UV Protection Oil for items intended to be installed outdoors. Remember, Australian hardwood timber species are always best for Australian conditions. When used externally, timber is always best in an undercover, protected situation and will ALWAYS require regular maintenance to minimise weathering and splitting. 

How often you need to care for your product is primarily determined by your use and your desire to keep the product looking new. For general cleaning, remove dust and dirt with a soft cloth. For persistent marks, use a soft, damp cloth with a touch of water only - wipe in the direction of the timber’s natural grain to prevent cross-scratching. In general, we would recommend OSMO's suite of maintenance products, which are compatible with their finishes or simply water and a soft cloth (UNLESS, OF COURSE, IT IS A PANDEMIC AND YOU NEED TO  CLEAN & DISINFECT YOUR HANDLES - See, our JOURNAL POST). For surface rejuvenation, the re-application of a clear finish is required, and we would recommend OSMO. Please get in touch with us if you are unsure.

LEATHER.

Remove dust and dirt with a soft, dry cloth. Natural leather will age and darken over time - each hide's appearance will be unique. Subtle irregularities in leather products are expected as leather is a natural material - these characteristics are intended to be admired and appreciated. Nourish the leather occasionally with a wax/silicone-free leather conditioner, but patch test before overall application as it may darken the leather—contact specialist leather cleaners for persistent stains.
